Nadra Safiri aromatherapy oils

We’ve a hunch that the beauty world is poised to ‘discover’ the richness of African beauty culture and ingredients, which so far haven’t really enjoyed their deserved place in the sun. What we’re excited about, too, is the potential for ethical sourcing practices to make a huge impact to the communities that beauty brands trade with.

Founded by Esther Nwachukwu, Nadra Safiri describe themselves as a ‘Partner of Purpose to small businesses and sole traders that face exploitation on a daily basis. Instead of borrowing from these emerging economies and claiming ownership, we provide small businesses and their communities with the opportunity to equally compete and succeed in the global market. With ethical and transparent sourcing at our journey’s origin, and an extraordinary sensory experience as our destination, we aim for a symbiotic relationship at every step.’ They work with African distillers, adding value at ground level, and harvest ingredients seasonally. And in addition to sourcing from Africa, ingredients are found in Indonesia and India, too – other places where ethical trading can make a huge difference to people’s lives.

Of course, while we might buy something once for that rosy glow from knowing it’s going to benefit someone in the developing world, beauty products (and any other type of product, come to that) have to be as good as – or perhaps even better than – the alternatives out there. So we’re pleased to report: Nadra Safiri definitely tick that box, with a range of home fragrance products: reed diffusers, essential oils (for using in a burner or aromatherapy gadget), and a Roosbloom Candle (so popular it’s currently sold out!)

The REIS fragrance is earthy, grounding, almost animalic in its mystery. Our preference, however, is for TULIA, which smells like burying your nose in fresh orange blossom – a wonderfully uplifting scent for home, or in our case, office. (Definitely a better way to fix a mid-afternoon mood slump than a pack of Border biscuits.) There’s a little £10 Discovery Set, so that you can make up your own mind with minimal commitment.

All delivering a feel-good factor – with a smell-good factor, too.
