Beauty Bible Loves... Merit 1980 Volumising Brow Pomade and Merit 1990 Gel Pencil

‘Brows are the architecture of the face.’ Can’t remember who first told us that, aeons ago (think it was Beverly Hills brow legend Anastasia) – but it’s so, so true. The position, contour and shape of brows can honestly change a face – and the right products make it easy to do that.

These are The Right Products.

We know our way around brow products (Jo being blonde and virtually ‘disappearing’ without brow emphasis), and Sarah having over-plucked hers, in days of yore. But from the moment these landed on the desk, new launches from Merit (who we have become massively impressed by), they’ve shot to the top of our eyebrow make-up pops.

First, the pencil. Merit 1990 Sheer Gel Pencil is micro-fine, ideal for fine, defining feathery strokes and great for ‘ends’ where they can disappear into the yonder. Much less ‘waxy’ than many pencils, which we sometimes find a bit hard work and also ‘obvious’ when stroked on, this is a gel-textured pencil that glides on, defines brilliantly – and stays. Four shades available, as per above.

Then, Merit 1980 Volumizing Pomade. Again in four shades (see above), this delivers tiny fibres to subtly bulk up brows (NB no flaking), with a great wand. While defining, shaping and grooming (you don’t get to our age without a few brow hairs trying to make a break for it), it still looks utterly natural. When we’re in a hurry, we use this on its own – you might find it’s all you need, but there’s a good deal on the two products if you buy them together as a Brow Essentials Duo.

We don’t think it’s EVER been easier to gain an instant qualification in brow architecture…
