Fab Find of the Week: Good Habit skincare

With more and more time spent in front of our screens, we’re hearing a lot about the impact of blue light on skin.

Why does it matter? According to webmd.com, ‘Research shows blue light from electronic devices can lead to changes in your skin cells, including cell shrinkage and death. These speed up the ageing process. Even exposures as short as 60 minutes can trigger these changes.’ (That’s death of skin cells, of course – but even so…)

So Good Habit are among the names putting that damage – well, in the spotlight, with a range that includes these excellent skincare finds, incorporating something they call ‘BLU5 technology’ to prevent and combat signs of photoageing. Frankly, we’d buy the following for their texture and pleasure factor, but are happy to have that extra protection. (Much as we try to limit screen exposure outside working hours…)

Catch Flights, Not Feelings Skin Shielding Serum/£42 for 60ml. A great protective serum which shields against the irritants that cause inflammation and oxidative stress – for instance, dust, pollution, smog, and the air within aeroplanes (if you ever wondered what that distinctive ‘plane smell’ was, it’s basically a fusion of aviation fuel.) It features glow-getting botanicals including ginkgo biloba, arnica, and super-quenching hibiscus fruit, along with light-diffusing pearls to smooth the skin’s appearance.

Glow Potion Oil Serum/£49 for 50ml. A shake-before-use serum (we’re loving the marine stripes of the three layers, before shaking!) A deliciously ‘slippy’ texture, which really does hover somewhere between an oil and a serum, it offers 15 botanicals and a blend of six oils (including sunflower, rosehip, red raspberry seed and camellia), together with that anti-blue light technology. (NB Good Habit isn’t what we’d describe as a ‘natural’ range, but it does feature plenty of botanicals.)

Water Jelly Dew Cream/£35 for 50ml. Good Habit really are very good at coming up with names that describe the texture of their products – here, a wibbly-wobbly (as they put it, ‘bouncy’) cream which is just heaven to use, melting into skin to deliver its cargo of hydrating ingredients, including hyaluronic acid. BLU 5 technology is harnessed again here, too, for that blue light protection.

Most of us can’t limit our screentime during the day, when we’re working. Out of hours, we can try to keep phone use to a minimum (notwithstanding the seductive powers of Instagram’s algorithm). Meanwhile, this ‘insurance policy’ line-up is pure joy, to use.
