DO/PAUSE/You Are Not A To Do List, by Robert Poynton
Well, we’re not QUITE having a summer pause, here at Beauty Bible Towers – what with our Beauty Bible Awards Edit 2022 box launching, tomorrow. But once that’s done, we will certainly be taking the opportunity to make the most of what is generally a quieter time of year in the beauty universe, to put our finger on the ‘pause’ button.
We’re sharing a little book review today – of a little book. (You could fit it in a generous pocket, it’s that dinky.) DO/PAUSE/You Are Not A To Do List delves into all the reasons why pausing is a very good thing – in conversation, in acting, for creativity, for recharging of batteries and for so many other reasons.
If you’re someone who leaps into conversations, for instance, it will give you – yes – pause for thought as to why it might be better to wait a moment or two before speaking. If you’re always ticking things off that ‘To Do’ list, this shares why giving that a rest occasionally will benefit you, in the long run. It details lots of different ways of pausing, how to easily incorporate them into daily life – and why it matters.
A short, excellent read. So put the kettle on, pull up a chair in whatever shade you can find – and do pause, with our blessing. (And with Robert Poynton’s.)

PS Further food for thought on the subject of pausing, which we’ve become rather fascinated with, is the On Being Project’s ‘The Summer of the Pause’, a weekly summer newsletter from the creators of the excellent podcast On Being with Krista Tippett, which this week talks about how to be the calm at the centre of the storm. Read Issue 1 here, and then check out the other newsletters in this series. Can’t recommend too highly.
