Beauty Bible Loves... Discotheque candles
We were quite the party animals, in our time. And a new collection of beautiful British candles is making us feel nostalgic for the days of disco and dancing till the wee small hours.
Convenient, really – because now that we’re a bit older and don’t really want to go bopping till dawn (or beyond) – our idea of a good time is to light a scented candle and enjoy a nice night in!
We first encountered Discothèque candles at their pop-up on Brewer Street at Christmas, and they put a smile on our face back then. They’re now taking off, with a range emblazoned with candle names borrowed from some of the most celebrated clubs the world has ever enjoyed. (And we mean enjoyed.)
Wag Club, Hacienda, Paradise Garage (Jo saw Madonna play there at Keith Haring’s birthday party, many moons ago!), Chez Castel, Milk! and more – they were all considered fah-bu-lous, in their day. Alas, almost none of them still exists – but that’s the way of clubs.
So, you could choose by club (a great gift for a friend who used to love a particular venue – they’re not super-crazy prices), or choose by fragrance – there’s something for everyone. Jo might feel particularly nostalgic for Paradise Garage, but its scent is pretty special, too – a note of Cabernet (ironic, as the actual Paradise Garage was ‘dry’!), alongside orange blossom, jasmine, violet, amber, cedar, vetiver and musk.
Named after an extant nightclub – Upstairs (at Ronnie Scott’s), we’re also keen on the powdery, pretty scent of this candle, with notes of rose, peach, powder, lilac, lily, cinnamon, clove and tobacco (those were the days!) But there’s something for everyone, we reckon.
This is definitely a candle brand to watch, in the opinion of these former party animals.
Or rather, sniff.
