Beauty Bible Loves... Bloomeffects skincare
The last petal may have fluttered to the ground following the Chelsea Flower Show, but your bathroom shelf can blossom on, with these Bloomeffects skincare products.
Have to say: tulip extract was a new ingredient to us, but its reported benefits are interesting. And what we can say is: these products are wonderfully skin-quenching –
It’s a charming brand story: founder Kim, who’d worked in the beauty world in New York, is married to a fourth-generation Dutch flower grower, and had a lightbulb moment when she observed how tulips have the power to go on growing long after they’re picked. Sure enough, research into tulips’ skincare power (backed by grants from the Dutch government) established that they feature several ingredients that strengthen barrier function – auxin, kinetin, Essential Fatty Acids – together with gentle skin-brightening AHAs, and antioxidant flavonoids.
We’ve tried several products from Bloomeffects (all of which are free from fragrance, synthetic dyes, phthalates, parabens, PEGs, gluten and sulfates) – and here are our thoughts…
Royal Tulip Moisturising Nectar/£64 for 80ml. Not like anything you’ve probably used on your skin, this healing ointment has a texture like honey (but somehow, not sticky). Use it on dry, red patches and for a moisturising overnight mega-treat.
Tulip Nectar Skin Repair/£45 for 120ml. Again, this is a deeply repairing product, this time for the body – it really does have a balm texture, best for super-dry patches (FANTASTIC for elbows!), rather than as an all-over body moisturiser, although it does melt to an oil texture when massaged into skin. It was a winner in Allure’s 2021 beauty awards.
Tulip Tint Lip & Cheek Balm/£28 for 13ml. A great one for the handbag, this smooths equally beautifully over bare skin or make-up (don’t be deceived by the strong ting, because it blends really well). Three shades, Petal Pink (ideal for cooler skintones), Crispa Coral (warm skintones) and the apparently quirkily-named Stroopwafel (it actually IS a small, caramel waffle, in Dutch – and on skin, is a sun-kissed shade).
Tulip Dew Drops/£54 for 30ml. Probably our favourite of the range, a serum which is joyously plumping and hydrating – honestly, properly dewy in texture. You can use it as a primer (if skin is not so dry), or under moisturiser (or at this time of year, SPF, please).
Blooming lovely, we reckon, all of it.
