From a legendary range now 30 years old, this new Guerlain product hydrates intensely – with camellia and jojoba seed oil plus an innovative plant micro-patch infused with an amino acid that promises to ‘diffuse a continual flow of moisture to the heart of the epidermis’. Plus, it offers their Tan Booster complex, based on an ingredient from the carob tree, to give you that little bit of extra golden glow.

Lavera After Sun Lotion

This totally natural, vegan after sun offers a rehydrating combination of organic shea butter and sunflower seed oil to prevent skin becoming dry and flaky, plus skin-cooling aloe vera and calendula to reduce redness and soreness.

L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Nourishing Body Lotion /Tan Optimiser

A brilliant ‘Beauty Steal’, this double duty product promises 48-hour hydration for dry areas – with four oils fruit oils, plus a self-tanner: perfect if you have only managed a day or two of sun exposure. NB the main ingredient after water is mineral oil (paraffinum liquidum) so it may not suit skintypes that are prone to congestion.

Comments: ‘Easy to apply from pump action dispenser, went on beautifully and moisturised instantly, left skin extremely soft and slightly golden' • ‘I don't usually use a tan enhancer but it is a good idea and I like the result; I needed two applications to see much effect' • ‘relieved dryness and tightness, reasonable price but feels more indulgent than the basic after sun I normally use' • ‘smooth silky lotion that smelt like summer holidays; I’m not usually a fan of fruit fragrances but I would be quite happy wafting of this in the summer'.
