Could you be Avon's Beauty In Colour £20,000 start-up winner?
We know how hard it is for any beauty start-up to get noticed – and so we’re delighted to share what is a really great opportunity to make that happen, thanks to Avon.
But it’s an opportunity with a difference, because the Beauty in Colour Start-Up award is open to women of colour who (as they put it) ‘want to be the next big beauty boss with a kick-ass product idea.’
Alongside a really meaty prize of £20,000, there is the potential to develop a product further and sell it via Avon. Some people might see that as a ‘catch’, we guess – but with it being so hard for any brand to get noticed, not least because face-to-face meetings with stores and stockists are completely out of the question, we think this offers a great way to get a product or initiative onto the public’s radar, fast. And very importantly, there will also be mentoring support on offer.
So: here’s the deal. First off, you must ‘identify as a woman of colour, who lives in the UK…’ You must also have ‘a passion for beauty and inclusivity, a desire to create affordable products for under-represented communities, a product idea or formula you know others will love and a hunger to succeed and to be a beauty boss.’
Judges include our beauty world buddies Dr. Ateh Jewel (award-winning journalist and diversity advocate), Millie Kendall (co-founder of the British Beauty Council), along with ‘Eyebrow Queen’ and diversity advocate Nilan Holmes and two senior team members at Avon.
A great chance for somebody to get their foot in the beauty world’s door – and we look forward to showcasing the winner, in due course.
