7 Secrets of Beauty & Wellbeing: Soapsmith founder Samantha Jameson

’Tis set to be a busy season for Soapsmith, whose bath and body treats we’ve loved since they first made it onto our radar, and which are now decanted into THE most wonderful Art Deco-style packaging. Like all indie beauty brands, Soapsmith is the result of a huge amount of work, long hours, creativity and general rolling-up-of-sleeves.

Soapsmith founder Samantha Jameson, then, is the perfect candidate to share the secrets of how she stays well, balanced and energised, for the latest in our series of interviews. Her second successful start-up, Soapsmith embodies Sam’s love of fragrance and the scented world. ‘Smell has always been my strongest sense and my connection to places, people and time comes through smell – it’s the thing that transports me to the various chapters of my life. I always thought: if only I could bottle and share those memories with the world.

We’re so glad that she does. And here, then, is HOW…

Stop. Pause. Reset. It’s so easy to find yourself on a hamster wheel, reacting to each day, challenge or firework that comes your way with, finding distractions at every turn. This not only hinders progress, but provokes a frenetic energy that can become exhausting. We at Soapsmith are encouraging a four-day week where possible, taking Fridays to stop and reset for the following week. Moments of pause and reflection are essential for all-round mental and physical health

I like to keep my skincare routine simple. A decent cleanser and moisturiser twice a day, topped off with a bit of red lipstick,= makes me feel great, youthful and straightforward – the ‘magic three’, often hard to reach for any working mum!

I never scrimp on hair. I am a firm believer that investment in a decent hairdresser and products is an investment for long term preservation. It plays such an important part in how you feel about how you look.

It’s important to have breaks from screen time. We don’t realise the effects of being constantly on our phone or at our computers until we step away. I make an effort not to be on my phone in the evenings before bedtime, as I find my mind is much calmer for winding down to go to sleep.

At least one bath a week in a Soapsmith Bath Soak is essential for me! I’m not the sort of founder that exclusively uses my products, but I designed my bath soaks to give people (including me) something to relax and enjoy, while providing nourishing, moisturising benefits for the whole body. Honestly, bliss.

I swear by drinking lots and lots of water. I get that all-important hydration from pure Brita-filtered water, which keeps me focused, alert, not to mention my skin clear and young. It’s one of the most underrated beauty tips out there.

Good bed linen is life-changing! High quality sheets really are the secret to a good night’s sleep – which of course is the real secret for healthy skin, organs and mental health.
